    Describe your real estate experience.
I started in real estate at the age of eight, when my dad, Terry DeSelms, became a REALTOR®. I answered phones, licked stamps for mailings and even knocked on a few doors. When I became licensed, I quickly found my passion for helping sellers out of financial distress by negotiating short sales on their behalf. I became the broker of our company in 2008 and I'm now the broker/owner of DeSelms Real Estate. I now have a passion for teaching and mentoring agents, and helping them to thrive in our industry.

I have grown up in the industry. I think being born and raised in Nashville gives me a unique understanding of our industry and community. I am very detail-oriented. I love a challenge, am a great problem-solver and a good listener. I have a passion for working with other great leaders to continue to help our REALTOR® community grow and thrive.

What do you believe is the greatest challenge facing the real estate industry today?
Learning to embrace the increase of technology and continuing to educate our community about the benefits of hiring a REALTOR® in our changing market.

    Describe your real estate experience.
I am enjoying a fantastic career in real estate. Not just in the number of transactions or dollar amounts. I am fortunate to have curated a book of business in which I work with interested and fun clients who already were or quickly become friends. I value the REALTOR® relationships that I've developed. Many have become my closest friends.

History of committee service, offices held, or any other areas of service (please include dates of service and/or number of years served).

    Greater Nashville REALTORS®
For the last year, I served on the Legislative/RPAC Committee, the Professional Development Committee and the Professional Development of the Future subcommittee. I'm passionate about those committees because I think advocacy of issues that affect us and deepening our education makes us stronger and better.
2015 Graduate of Leadership Academy (formerly Leadership GNAR)

    2017 Leadership Nashville Nominee

Pursuing e-Pro certification, Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation and Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR) designation.
Greater Nashville REALTORS® Education Achievement Award winner, 2016

Describe your political involvement (i.e. RPAC investment, relationship with local elected officials, work in campaigns, etc.)
I am a RPAC Silver R Major Investor because I believe we need to have voices who understand, represent and advocate issues that affect real estate transactions, REALTORS®, and our client/customer base. For example, the Flood Insurance Program was set to terminate this past September. It's critical our representatives know that flood insurance is important to buyers and sellers in the Nashville area, especially after the 2010 flood. RPAC advances those kinds of causes.

I'm also genuinely concerned about what is happening in our city, which is why I regularly attend Metro Council meetings and community meetings.

    Describe your charitable/community involvement.
    Make-a-Wish Foundation
Monroe Carrell, Jr Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt
    Habitat for Humanity
    Preston Taylor Ministries
    YMCA
Perform with the Nashville Symphony Chorus
    Hillsboro High School PTO

What characteristics, qualities and/or skills do you feel you would bring to the director position?
With a law background (J.D., Pepperdine School of Law, 1995), I have a unique skill set that fuels my interest in advocacy of issues that affect us as REALTORS®, our client/customer base and public-at-large, including issues like short-term regulation, sidewalks, transportation, the flood insurance program reinstatement, tax reform, protection of the home mortgage interest deduction, etc. I can articulate well those issues, and would like to have a seat at the table as a director to be able to be a voice on behalf of the REALTOR® community and our clients/customers.

What do you believe is the greatest challenge facing the real estate industry today?
I'm concerned about what multiple listing services will look like in five years. With groups like Zillow, possibly Amazon, and others poorly attempting to get in the real estate business, now more than ever we REALTORS® need to show our value and our worth. We have a skill set. We have knowledge. We have relationships. We have an influence on local/state/federal public policy that affects our clients and our market. I'd love to energize our association membership to stay involved in local real estate-centric political issues, elevate and deepen our education; and professionally and socially engage with one another more. Our rising tide can lift all of our boats.

I branched out on my own as an independent affiliate broker for Fridrich & Clark in 2014.

What characteristics, qualities and/or skills do you feel you would bring to the director position?
I feel that I would bring value using my diverse real estate background, along with my natural eagerness to stay educated on local happenings, and national and international events that may impact our industry. Online social media marketing and CRM (customer relationship management) have played important roles in advancing my sales career. I'm always learning something new about various platforms, third-party companies and phone applications. I feel that I would be a good source of information in that regard as technology is constantly evolving, whether good or bad. I was also recently named by propertyspark.com as one of the Top 20 Nashville Real Estate Agents on Social Media.

What do you believe is the greatest challenge facing the real estate industry today?
I believe today's biggest challenges in our industry are the internet giants who seem to have a vision of taking over the industry in a DIY-kind-of-way for consumers squeezing out the delicate hands-on approach provided by REALTORS®.
