40 West Nashville Students Honored for Character and Academic Achievement

April 2017 Pride of the Panther recipientsNASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 17, 2017) – Greater Nashville REALTORS® Public Education Committee welcomed 40 students into the “Pride of the Panthers” program on April 4.
Each nine-week grading period the trade association, through their affiliation with the PENCIL Foundation, recognizes students at H.G. Hill Middle School. The students are honored during a special ceremony in front of their peers, teachers and parents at the school.
“The relationship Greater Nashville Realtors has with H.G. Hill Middle School is one of our most cherished,” said Greater Nashville Realtors President Scott Troxel. “Housing and education are so closely intertwined, our members want to support schools and students however we can.”
To receive a Pride of the Panther award, a student must be nominated by a teacher or staff member from the school. While academic achievement plays a role in being considered, the award criteria also includes upstanding character and a positive attitude.
“Students love to be recognized by our faculty and staff, but being honored by an outside organization is such an affirmation for these students who work so hard,” said Connie Gwinn, H.G. Hill Middle School Principal. “Our faculty and staff also appreciate the work of Greater Nashville Realtors in encouraging and supporting our school.”
During the special assembly, representatives from the Realtor organization present students with a certificate of achievement. Photos of students are also taken and later displayed in the school’s lobby. Following the program is a reception for the students and their parents.
“Whether it is receiving an education that leads to a job that leads to the option of homeownership, or whether it is supporting quality school systems to attract businesses and families, Realtors understand the importance of quality education in relation to housing,” said Troxel. “Advocating for education has long been a part of our strategic plan as an organization and enables us to engage as we do with H.G. Hill.”
